I stimped on Thursday (8th) in view of the awful forecast for Friday. Up to Thursday evening it had been a dry and warm (and humid) week. The greens were running at 10’ exactly - all very similar in speed and looking great. They are still growing strongly and are being cut every day. They were ironed only on Thursday morning.
That was Thursday. We have since had almost an inch of thunderous rain overnight which closed the course first thing due to ongoing electrical activity. It came straight back into play when the storm moved away. That was until lunchtime, when the thunderstorms returned with a vengeance. Too soon to know how much rain then fell, but sadly the lightning forced the Mixed Open to be cancelled.
Our newest greenkeeper, Alan Eli Dunlop - his preferred name is Eli - started on Monday. He’s a very pleasant and enthusiastic young lad who knows enough of his way round the machinery so has hit the ground running. Iwan will finish next Friday, but is promising not to be too far away if we need short-term help.
