The current spell of hot dry weather has caused noticeable shrinkage in Eaton’s clay ground. Cut lines are cracking open, especially where we’ve recently slit the ground by gravel banding. We are therefore putting in place, with immediate effect, a Local Rule to enable relief for balls coming to rest on/in the gaps, as follows:
LOCAL RULE: SHRINKAGE CRACKS
Cracks in the ground in any part of the General Area cut to fairway height or less are Ground Under Repair. The player may take relief under Rule 16.1b by dropping the ball in the Relief Area within 1 club length, not nearer the hole. Relief is not allowed if the crack only interferes with the player’s stance.
Penalty for playing ball from a Wrong Place in breach of Local rule: General Penalty under Rule 14.7a.
