2023 Seniors 36-hole Championship – 4th/5th May
31 players lined up for this relatively new men’s event which was the brainchild of Mark McNamee. The event was played for the first time in 2021 and was won by Simon Dangar and who has presented the Club with an elegant Silver Trophy.
Last year saw Steve Taylor take the gross title after an excellent first round and holding off all rivals in the second round.
This year’s event was to prove very challenging for the men! The competition is played off the White Tees and this year into a strong wind on day one. The course was set up excellently and leader after round one with a Gross 80 was Simon Dangar; closely followed by Amos Ferguson and Jonty Little both with a gross 82.
In charge of the first round nett was Stuart McIntyre with an excellent first round nett of 72, followed by Jonty Little & Simon Dangar both with nett 75’s.
Thankfully for all players, the wind died down a lot for the second day and the final group saw Simon, Amos & Jonty battling head to head. Simon edged the other 2 with a second round gross of 79 giving him a two round total of 159.
The group just ahead though included to the eventual winner. Dave Killoran shot a magnificent 2nd round gross of 74 for a two round total of 159. Dave took the title from Simon on the best second round score with Amos Ferguson finishing outright 3rd.
Dave said afterwards that his putter was on fire having only 25 putts in the final round (Simon said he would work on his putting for next year’s event!!).
The nett title went to Neil Blacklock after his two round combined total of 146 just ahead of a fast-finishing Dave Killoran on 147 and in 3rd place Ken Sutton on 149.
Dave will be presented with the Magnificent Silver Trophy at the Men’s presentation event later in the year.
Thank you to all who took part in this ever-popular event.
