I played cricket for King's School, Chester against Worcester Royal GS in September, 1963.

Our own house was in Victorian times a brick & tile works. Ideal stiff local clay. The next brick works to us, still on the Grosvenor Estate, was 2 miles away at Aldford. The Grosvenors built nearly all of Saighton, Aldford & Eccleston in the 1870 - 1890 period so made their own bricks & roof tiles when needed.

Most of our rectangular ponds eg by the 8th tee & on the 18th were almost certainly marl pits whilst the circular ones were more likely to be glacial.
