Goodbye from Captain Simon

So, as Phil the 2022 Captain drove into Office on Sunday, I thought I would just take this opportunity to say how much I have enjoyed my 2 years as Captain (well mostly) and to say a massive thank you to all the members and staff at Eaton Golf Club for their collective fantastic support.

I can only speak for myself when I say that this was one of the proudest moments of my life and fulfilled a lifelong ambition to be Captain of this marvellous golf club. Never did I imagine when I joined as a Junior in 1973 that I would one day become Captain and the journey and my time in in office has had its ups and downs but overall, a fantastic ride.

There have been many highlights in the last 2 years, including all the Centenary events including our inter club matches with both Sandiway & Prestbury, the 4 Counties Under 18 Boys match that finally went ahead in 2021, having been held over from 2020.

My personal highlights include winning both the Chester & Eaton Senior Championships and what I think might be quite a unique achievement in winning the Mixed Knockout with Lady Captain, Anne and going on to finish second in the Mixed Cheshire Championship at Vale Royal Abbey GC.

I feel blessed to have had the honour of being your Captain and hope that I have met the high standards expected as Eaton Captain, Phil has been an excellent Vice Captain and I can only wish Phil & Derryn the best of luck in their Captains’ years and thank you all again for your love and support.

Simon Dangar, Captain 2020 & 2021
