Very little to report this week, other than routine. We’ve had just over an inch of rain since the beginning of the month. July totalled 63 mm (2.5”), slightly less than the general average.
We were a man down in the week. This week there is only half a team in - Gavin, Eli and Craig are all on holiday (Craig’s leave was booked before he joined us). Last week Callum focused on general tidying - trimming ditches, bunkers, etc - and also managed to give the greens a light spray feed with growth regulator, which encourages the sward to thicken up rather than lengthen. This week it will just be mowing.
The following week - August 16 - we hope will be a ‘greens week’, when the greens will be solid tined, scarified (‘verticut’), and dressed. It’s something we do twice a year, usually a bit later than this but Gavin wants to get ahead of the calendar to clear the way to start on drainage development. The greens work will be a bit disruptive for a couple of days but will quickly settle down. And we also want to try and fit the hay harvest in before the end of the month. As with everything, it’s all weather-dependant: week of the 16th looks good - at the moment.
