The Eaton Talbot July 22nd 2012

Published: 18 November 2011

Eaton will be host to the finest amateur golfers in the north of England when the inagural Eaton Talbot takes place at the club next July.

The event will be the newest additiion to the Northern Order of Merit which began in 1988 and is now 29 events strong.  Each event is a 36 hole individual scratch strokeplay played by a limited field, in our case 64 golfers.  The Birkdale Silver Goblet is perhaps the premier event which attracts a massive entry and is generally balloted out at +1.3 or thereabouts, but the Formby Hare an the S & A Bowl carry amateur world ranking points for the first time.

Wining any of the events will certainly be a huge achievement, but each year the OOM is the target for the regions best amateur players.  As such being part of the OOM is a virtual guarantee of success.  Other clubs hosting events include Mere, Wallasey, Wilmslow, Hillside, West Lancs, Bromborough and Prestbury. Many of these have also held national events.

We should be proud to be part of the Northern Order of Merit and look forward to our first Eaton Talbot and to it becoming a huge success.
